At over 100,000 units sold, it still stands as by far the best-selling synthesizer ever produced. It defined the direction of Yamaha's entire keyboard line for the next seven years after its introduction. ![]() The DX7 was the first mass-produced synthesizer to use frequency modulation extensively, and the first digital synthesizer to sell in large quantities. Ironically, I've been trying to downsize my rig over the last five years but I think the gods were giving me a message -) Now I have a new project to load these patches! I had to lever the highboy up with one hand while pulling on the cord with the other, all the while watching the top of the chest to make sure that neither the DX nor I got hit by falling furniture. Unfortunately, the power cord was caught under a highboy, and this being an original DX7, the cord could not be disconnected. Four or five missing keys, lots of scuff marks, but it had a cartridge and I figured what the heck, I'll take it home and at least give it decent burial. As I got there I saw it was a pretty banged up DX7. Anyway, as I approached it I saw a keyboard on the ground. A few months ago I was taking a walk in my neighborhood and saw a pile of furniture and junk in front of a house. Man, this must be one of my all-time favorite GS threads! Click on the link below, to save a bank of DX7 patches to your PC. I have authentically recreated this sound for the DX7. This sound is a very commonly used bass sound in dance/techno genres. The Yamaha DX100 (a cheaper, 4-operator FM synth from '85) contains a preset called "Solid Bass".
